Baccaro Roofing GuideWeslaco Roof Repair After the June 2026 Flood

June 16, 20266 min read

The water is still rising across the Rio Grande Valley as we write this. The National Weather Service in Brownsville issued a Flood Watch for the entire RGV from Monday afternoon, June 15, through Wednesday and into Thursday morning. The Weather Prediction Center put Monday at a Moderate risk — Level 3 of 4 — of flash flooding, warning that numerous flash floods were likely. Forecasts called for 3 to 6 inches of rain widespread, with isolated totals of 8 inches or more, and rain rates topping 2 inches per hour. Some outlooks pushed totals to 5 to 10 inches, isolated near 12.

Weslaco took it on the chin. The city signed a local disaster declaration, and according to KRGV the eastbound I-2 frontage road between Westgate Drive and FM 88 (Texas Boulevard) closed because of flooding after 2 to 4 inches fell. Valley-wide, roughly 3,733 customers lost power Monday evening, and sandbag distribution is underway across the region. If you live here, you already know the story: Weslaco's older, low-lying neighborhoods and flat, ponding-prone terrain hold water, and water that pools is water that finds a way in.

This post is for Weslaco homeowners and businesses worried about what all this rain is doing above their heads. We are Baccaro Roofing, owner-operated by Ronnie Baccaro right here in the Valley, and we want you to come out of this storm dry.

What a flood and heavy rain do to your roof

A roof is built to shed water fast. When rain falls harder than the roof can drain, problems start. Here is what we see after Valley storms like this one:

  • Ponding on low-slope roofs. Flat and low-slope roofs common on Weslaco homes and commercial buildings cannot drain 2 inches an hour. Standing water adds weight and seeps through seams.
  • Backed-up valleys and gutters. Where two roof planes meet, debris plus volume overwhelms the valley and pushes water sideways under shingles.
  • Saturated decking. Once water gets past the shingles, the wood decking underneath soaks up moisture, weakens, and starts to sag.
  • Wind-blown and lifted shingles. The same storm system brings gusts that lift, crack, or tear shingles, opening direct paths for the next downpour.
  • Ceiling stains and active drips. Brown rings on a ceiling mean water is already inside the assembly.
  • Attic moisture and mold. Trapped humidity in the attic feeds mold and rots framing long after the rain stops.

The tricky part is that a lot of this hides. A roof can look fine from the street and still be wet underneath. That is exactly why a free, no-obligation inspection after a storm is worth it.

Your first 24 to 48 hours

Stay safe first. Do not climb onto a wet roof, and stay away from downed power lines — remember those thousands of Valley outages.

  • Contain the water inside. Put buckets under active drips and move furniture and valuables clear.
  • Photograph everything. Date-stamped photos of stains, drips, and any visible exterior damage protect you later.
  • Note what you saw. When did the leak start? Which room? Write it down while it is fresh.
  • Call for an inspection. Get eyes on the roof before small damage becomes a torn-out ceiling. Reach Baccaro at (956) 600-0501.

If water is pouring in, you may need a temporary tarp to stabilize things until repairs can happen. Our team can talk you through [emergency tarping in McAllen and the Valley](/blog/emergency-roof-tarp-mcallen) or come handle it. For ongoing leaks, our [Weslaco roof repair](/areas/weslaco/roof-repair) crew is local and reachable.

Insurance claim or maintenance fix?

Not every leak is a claim, and not every claim is worth filing. Here is how we think about it with Weslaco homeowners.

If the damage is clearly storm-related — lifted shingles, decking damage, a sudden leak after this week's rain — it may be an insurance matter. Baccaro provides a free assessment, full photo documentation, and we meet your adjuster on-site so the damage is seen the right way. We do not get between you and your insurance carrier; the claim is yours, and we are simply there to document the roof honestly and do quality work. The claim stays in your name from start to finish.

If it turns out to be wear, a clogged valley, or a small flashing issue, that is often a straightforward maintenance repair — no claim needed. Our [Weslaco insurance-claim support page](/areas/weslaco/insurance-claim) walks through how we document storm damage, and our broader [Weslaco roofing services](/areas/weslaco) cover everything in between.

Why a local owner-operated crew beats the storm chasers

After any Valley disaster, out-of-town storm-chasing companies flood in behind the rain. They knock doors, push fast contracts, and are gone before the next season. Baccaro is different. Ronnie Baccaro is the owner, and he is on the jobs. We are based at 4305 N 10th St in McAllen, we have served the Valley for more than 5 years, and we have completed over 500 RGV projects with a 5.0-star rating across 20 Google reviews.

We install GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed product lines, and we stand behind the work because we are still going to be here next year, and the year after. When you need fast help, our [Weslaco emergency roof repair](/areas/weslaco/emergency-roof-repair) line is ready, and if you are over our way, our [McAllen roof repair](/areas/mcallen/roof-repair) team handles the same storm damage across the city.

This is the second major rain event the Valley has weathered recently. If you want the bigger picture on storm recovery, read our notes on [roof repair after the June 2026 floods](/blog/mcallen-roof-repair-after-flooding-2026).

Frequently asked questions

How soon can Baccaro inspect my Weslaco roof after this flood? We are responding to storm calls now. Call (956) 600-0501 and we will get you on the schedule as fast as safe conditions allow. The inspection is free with no obligation.

My ceiling has a stain but no active drip — do I still need an inspection? Yes. A stain means water already got inside the roof assembly. Catching it early often means a small repair instead of replacing soaked decking and drywall later.

Will you handle the insurance side for me? We provide a free assessment, document the damage with photos, and meet your adjuster on-site. The claim stays between you and your carrier — we are there to make sure the roof is documented honestly and repaired well.

Should I trust a company that knocked on my door after the storm? Be careful with out-of-town storm chasers. Choose a local, owner-operated crew you can find next year. Baccaro is based in McAllen and serves Weslaco directly — start with our [Weslaco roof repair](/areas/weslaco/roof-repair) team.
