Why I founded Baccaro Roofing
I grew up watching Rio Grande Valley roofs fail before their time — not because of bad material, but because rushed installers didn't understand how South Texas heat, UV, hurricane wind, and salt air punish roofs differently than the rest of the country. After years working under other roofers, I founded Baccaro Roofing in McAllen with one clear mission: install roofs that survive the RGV climate and back them with warranties that mean something.
Today we run bilingual crews across the entire Valley — from McAllen and Edinburg to Brownsville, Harlingen, and the coast. Every install passes through my hands: measuring, specifying material, supervising the crew, and the final walk-through. I don't subcontract quality.
My approach to roofing in the RGV
I treat every RGV roof as a four-stressor system: daily heat, continuous UV, hurricane wind, and for coastal homes, salt. The right shingle for Iowa will fail prematurely in McAllen. The right shingle for McAllen may not hold up in Brownsville. The recommendations I make depend on your specific city, exposure, and how long you plan to own the home.
For interior RGV homes (McAllen, Edinburg, Mission, Pharr, Weslaco), Class 4 impact-resistant shingles are my default recommendation. For coastal homes (Brownsville, Port Isabel, South Padre, Laguna Vista) and for owners staying 12+ years, I recommend standing-seam metal with aluminum panels and stainless fasteners.
